Private Elementary School CharlestonCoastal Christian Preparatory serves the greater Charleston area with a Lower School model of instruction which includes grades K5-5th Grade. This program is designed to prepare our children for Upper School instruction.  The fundamentals of reading, writing and arithmetic have not changed even with today`s technology.  There is of course purposeful planning to use technology within the day.  Within the elementary grades the teachers lovingly guide students through a Biblical world view while maintaining academic integrity.

The parents appreciate the opportunity to be able to interact with our teachers who have an intimate knowledge of their children.

It`s not just about small class sizes; it is having teachers who are committed to getting to know their students, academically, socially, spiritually and physically. It is the practical application of our mission statement.

The Coastal family community begins daily in car line where everybody knows your name, and continues with across grade level opportunities such as Cougar Buddies, reading partners, and Pep Squad. In addition, students are well-equipped for Upper school with critical thinking skills and technology familiarity. Coastal also offers a GRACE program as academic support, where one-on-one direct instruction is made possible for students who need comprehensive individual assistance to reach their academic goals and God-given potential.

“Coastal Christian Prep School is a fun and loving learning environment that fosters solid formation of the whole being; Spiritual, Intellectual and Physical.”

Curriculum

Our standardized test scores indicate that the majority of our students are above average in achievement and ability.

Our independent, accredited school curriculum is designed to challenge these students to meet high standards. Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Bible make up our core subjects. Special areas include weekly Chapel service, Art, Computer, Library, Music, and Physical Education.

Our professional, teachers are equipped with the skills to teach, the compassion to nurture, and the creativity to make the academic challenge a road to discovery. All faculty and staff are committed to being positive role models and demonstrating Christian values.

5K Kindergarten

Our goal in 5K is to prepare students for 1st grade and equip them with all the skills necessary to be successful. Students take great pride and pleasure in learning to read during this important school year. A phonics-based approach plays an important role in equipping students with the tools they need to become successful life-long readers. In addition to reading, students learn proper handwriting techniques along with mathematical concepts.

Science and social studies education is integrated into the curriculum through thematic units. In this partnership we are blessed to partner with our parents as we begin this Christ-centered child development journey.

5th and 6th Grade

The 5th and 6th grade students receive a customized, blended instructional program that prepares them for the rigorous college preparatory classes within the 7th -12th grades. The purpose of this model is to transition and develop independent workers who collaborate under the teachers\\\’ supervision and who are better prepared for the upper school experience.

This age group has unique social, physical, and academic challenges. The teachers work closely together helping students develop appropriate study habits and practices that will ensure their future success. The small class sizes allow teachers to individualize instruction and provide one-on-one enrichment as needed.

At this academic stage students begin to develop critical thinking skills, concept analysis and synthesis of knowledge. These skills are encouraged through cross-curricular activities, core subjects, computer application, music, art and physical education. all of which are developed within a Christian worldviews emphasis using biblical application.
